In 1980 the State Transit Authority commenced the Sydney and Bondi Explorer services. In 2002 City Sightseeing Pty Ltd commenced operations in Sydney as direct competitors. City Sightseeing Pty Ltd introduced open top, double deck buses, hop on - hop off, 24 hours tickets which was valid on both tours and proved to be very popular. In 2010 City Sightseeing Pty Ltd purchased the Sydney and Bondi Explorer services and began the next phase of sightseeing in Sydney, which included the purchase of brand new purpose built sightseeing buses and multi-lingual commentary.
